Hares have always been my favorite characters for their humor, optimism, battle skills, and undying loyalty. :) Drinking is minimally present, generally only used by the main characters to sneak past evil gaurds (give a ferret, weasel, or stoat a beaker of seaweed grog and he'll go out like a light). No things like 'hell' or any other words that humans say. Wait, let me amend that, language is only used MILDLY with things like 'come at me you lily-livered toads!' or 'put yer back into it, slimy bilgerats!'. Sex is not present, neither is language or consumerism. It has death and injuries, but nothing to serious. If you like books full of action, battle, strategy, mystery, and prophecies, the Redwall series is the series for you.
The animals who come from Redwall are peace-loving and kind, but if they are attacked, they are able to defend themselves. The main characters are either loners or they are from a place called Redwall Abbey. These animals aren't sparkly rainbow unicorns, or even mice like Jerry. Yes, the animals do talk and are the main characters, and no there aren't any humans, but this is NOT a kiddy story. While many children my age (pre-teen) would say 'ooh talking animals? That sounds like a kiddy book!' I disagree with them strongly.
